Due to the closure of the Mülheim-Kärlich nuclear power plant, the 162-meter-high cooling tower had to be demolished, but considering the environmental factor, this could not be done by blasting. So how did it happen?

A specially developed remotely controlled excavator was developed for this process. This excavator was mounted on the wall of the cooling tower with the help of a crane and its special skid legs. The excavator, which was hung on the wall thanks to sled legs, was controlled by a remote control system. Thanks to its hydraulic scissor attachment, the excavator tore apart the wall by rotating around the cooling tower from the top to the bottom.
